Forest

Vital to life, forests purify our air, filter our water, and prevent erosion. They help store carbon, and act as a buffer against climate change. They provide important natural resources from timber and food to medicinal plants. Forests also offer a home to most of the world’s land-based wildlife.

Forests may be composed of large, canopy forming trees. Or it may have scattered trees with a patchwork of plant communities. The many layers of plants include understory trees, shrubs, ferns, and shade-loving perennials.

Different shade densities can offer layers of seasonal interest. Combine theme-forming shrubs and perennials in attractive vignettes for large acreages. Together, they create areas of recreation, seasonal beauty, and environmental benefits.
